Council to Consider Street Improvement Project Funding Tonight

The Hermiston City Council will consider several resolutions and ordinances tonight that would increase franchise fees in order to raise revenue for a number of proposed street projects.

The council will consider raising franchise fees for the following:

  • Umatilla Electric Cooperative
  • Charter Communications
  • Eastern Oregon Telecom
  • EZ Wireless
  • Cascade Natural Gas
  • Inland Development Corp.
  • Windwave Communications
  • M2 Machmedia, LLC
  • Hermiston Energy Services

The increases would range from 1.5 to 2.5 percent. The revenue raised would pay for projects over a five-year period. Some of the projects proposed include:

  • First Street Bridge replacement
  • Newport Park roadway improvements
  • Resurfacing portions of W. Theater Lane
  • Installing traffic signals at the intersection of Highland and S. First Street
  • Orchard Avenue and S. First Street intersection improvements

Tonight’s meeting is at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
