The Hermiston Police Department got the approval of the Hermiston City Council this week to renovate a portion of the Safety Center.

According to Hermiston Police Chief Jason Edmiston, the project will involve renovating the under-utilized sally port. The project will expand the center’s patrol office from 185 feet to 600 feet and create an additional interview room, as well as more space for shift briefings and the officer work area.

The cost of the renovation project is estimated at $45,000 and will include the construction of an interior wall while insulating three existing interior walls, adding sheetrock to the entire space and incorporating a drop-down acoustic ceiling.

Funds for the renovation were included in the city’s 2013-14 budget.
