The Hermiston City Council will consider selling a piece of property to Ranch and Home for retail development at tonight’s meeting, and will also consider naming the new bus service that will begin in the city on Jan. 2.
At tonight’s meeting, the council will consider an offer to buy 0.43 acres of the existing Well #6 site directly north of the Wal-Mart Distribution Center to accommodate a proposed 100,000-square foot Ranch and Home store off Highway 395 on the southern portion of the city.
According to the city, This portion of the well is undeveloped with any city structures, is not needed for future water system development, and lies outside
the existing fenced boundary of the city’s lot.
Ranch and Home has offered $6,565 for the property.
Also at tonight’s meeting, the council will consider choosing one of four proposed names for the new free bus system that will operate in the city at the start of the new year. The public has had the chance to vote on their favorite name through an online survey. The four contenders are:
- “HART” Hermiston Area Regional Transit with 51.3% of the votes
- Watermelon Express with 20.7%
- Bulldog Express with 18.1%
- Hermiston Looper with 9.9%
Tonight’s meeting gets under way at 7 p.m. at Hermiston City Hall.
