The future of the Hermiston Conference Center will be up for discussion at tonight’s Hermiston City Council meeting.
In April, the council extended its contract to have the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce continue to operate the center through December 2016. A council subcommittee has been meeting with chamber representatives to discuss future plans for the conference center. Earlier this year, the council talked about the options for the center once the Eastern Oregon Trade & Event Center (EOTEC) opens. EOTEC will likely serve as a host for a number of events that currently take place at the conference center.
Also involved in the discussions is the city’s Futures Task Force, which recommended the city engage in a broader discussion about Hermiston’s community assets. The city has hired the firm of Barney and Worth to help the city with “community visioning work.” The firm recommended forming a Project Oversight Board consisting of local stakeholders.
The council will vote tonight on whether or not to create the oversight board.
The council will also hold a public hearing on a proposed landscaping ordinance. The meeting is at 7 p.m. at Hermiston City Hall.
