The Umatilla County Smoke Management Committee and the Umatilla County Planning Department are asking burn permit holders to check before igniting any fires.
Before burning, permit holders are asked to check the Burn Line (541)278-6397 or the county website.
The County Smoke Management Program was developed to mitigate negative impacts to air quality and, to help protect farmers and others retain the right to burn. Smoke Management permit holders are asked to log their permit number, acreage and crop type when calling the Burn Line. A permit is required for all open burning in the unincorporated areas of Umatilla County, excluding lands under the jurisdiction of the state of Oregon, U.S. government, the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, and areas covered by a fire district. This includes, but is not limited to, burn barrels, yard debris and fence lines.
Permits are available at the Planning Department at 541-278-6252 or the county website.
