Umatilla County Commissioner Dan Dorran made his case for re-election at a recent candidates forum in Hermiston.

Dorran is being challenged for the Position 3 seat by Alan Heel, who did not attend the forum on Thursday, Sept. 19 at Hermiston City Hall.

Dorran was given a few minutes prior to the Hermiston City Council candidates forum to highlight his past four years as commissioner.

Among the accomplishments Dorran touted were the county’s updated Strategic Plan, creating a new logo for the county and developing a manual for commissioners.

“It’s a very good tool for us,” Dorran said. “It’s been kind of a morale booster for us.”

Dorran also talked about increasing the budget for the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office and the county taking “a more aggressive” approach to economic development.

He also praised the county for working with local municipalities to fund and built Project PATH, the homeless shelter located on Lind Road.

A new county courthouse is among the unfinished business for Dorran and his fellow commissioners.

“There’s just not enough room,” Dorran said.

Dorran said the county has transportation needs that are not being met.

“Our funding for roads is very important and it’s on a downward trend,” he said. “Available funding for roads has got to come from somewhere.”
