The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office (UCSO) will once again be teaming up with agencies around the State for the Christmas and New Year’s season.

Beginning today and continuing to Dec. 31, the UCSO will be participating in Oregon’s DUII/High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) grant program looking for impaired drivers.

The sheriff’s office will have extra deputies patrolling the roadways looking specifically for intoxicated and distracted drivers.

On average, there are 33 lives lost in traffic collisions every December in the state of Oregon.  It is UCSO’s goal to prevent serious injury or fatal crashes on our county’s roadways.

The sheriff’s office urges everyone to buckle up, drive for the conditions, and never drive impaired by alcohol and or drugs.  If needed, arrange for a sober driver.

If anyone sees what they believe to be unsafe operation of a motor vehicle, call 911 with the vehicle’s description, direction of travel, and license plate number if possible. You may save a life.
