Interstate 84 eastbound is closed between Exit 216 (six miles east of Pendleton) and Ontario at Exit 374 due to a crash involving possible hazardous materials.
According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, haz-mat crews are on scene. The eastbound and westbound freeways are likely to be closed for several hours and travelers are advised to use alternate routes before entering the Eastern Oregon area. The accident occurred early Tuesday afternoon.
The eastbound closure has been extended to Pendleton due to limited truck parking space in Baker City and La Grande. OR 245 between OR 7 near Baker City and U.S. 26 is also closed to through traffic and is not a viable alternate route.
