The Hermiston Chamber of Commerce’s annual Summer Mixer on Thursday featured an evening of food, beverages, music and socializing.
And, despite a temperature of 100 degrees, attendees stayed cool in shade provided by the Bennett Botanical Gardens in Hermiston owned by Doug and Kris Bennett.
Chamber Executive Director Val Hoxie called the evening a “triumph,” and shared the credit with others
“The summer mixer was a tremendous hit, thanks to the combined efforts of many individuals and businesses,” Hoxie said. “A special shoutout goes to the businesses that attended and shared their passion for Hermiston and the value of being a chamber member. It was heartwarming to hear the positive sentiments about our town and community.”
Josh Burns served as emcee for the evening, sort of.
“I am not the master of ceremony tonight, because this is not a ceremony,” Burns said. “We’re here to relax and enjoy ourselves. If I’m going to stand out here in 100-degree heat, we’re going to have fun.”
Musically Unstable out of Heppner and Hermiston performed during the evening. The trio played a mix of pop, country and rock songs. The main course was served up by Hermiston’s Delish Bistro.
Dignitaries attending included Hermiston City Manager Byron Smith, Hermiston City Councilors Jackie Linton and David McCarthy, Umatilla County Commissioner Cindy Timmons as well as a representative from the office of State Rep. Greg Smith.
The event was sponsored by the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce, Amazon Web Services, Umatilla Electric Cooperative and KRISanthemums.
Hoxie said the ambiance offered by Bennett Botanical Gardens was the perfect setting.
“The evening was enchanting and simply delightful, with great music, delicious food, and wonderful company,” she said. “It’s a reminder of the special charm and community spirit that can only be found in Hermiston.”
