A Washington-based dairy company has purchased more than 7,000 acres of the Boardman Tree Farm and is planning to turn the land into irrigation crops.
According to OregonLive.com, Willow Creek Dairy, which leases land from Threemile Canyon Farms, bought 7,288 acres from tree farm owner GreenWood Resources for $65 million. The dairy is planning to use the land along the southern boundary of the farm, near Finley Buttes.
Earlier in November, a third of the 25,000-acre farm was sold to another dairy. The purchase means that the familiar rows of poplar trees will soon be gone. GreenWood Resources has owned the tree farm since 2007.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
