Dale Brian Carr of Pendleton died suddenly on July 28, 2020 at the age of 63 after years of struggling with health issues.
He was born on Sept. 1, 1956 in The Dalles to Wayne Edgar Carr and Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Huxel Carr.
Dale was raised on a dryland wheat and cattle ranch about 20 miles south of Arlington. Dale attended school in Arlington and met his wife of 44 years at Arlington High School. Dale married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Ann Grubaugh on June 30, 1976.
Dale and his older brother Wayne Edgar Carr Jr. (Chip) grew up and worked on the Dave Lemon Ranch on Bottimiller Road. Dale worked on the Lemon Ranch from an early age, doing everything from hoeing weeds and pulling rye when he was old enough to barely see over the wheat, to driving truck and operating the combine, Cat and other farm equipment. Dale also worked construction for SimTag Farms, driving fuel truck and operating scrapers to level the irrigation circles in the Boardman area for center pivot irrigation projects.
Dale and Peggy were blessed with their only child, a daughter, Audrey Ann Carr on Dec. 7, 1977. The family moved to Hermiston, where Dale worked in the cabinetry department at Marlette before he landed his dream job. Dale always wanted to work in a wrecking yard, so he inquired about work at Lindell’s Auto Salvage in Pendleton and started work there in March 1978. He worked at Lindell’s until 1986 and then worked at J & M Towing and Wrecking across town until 1994.
The family moved several times around the Pendleton area before settling in the Helix School District, about 10 miles from town in an old farm house on dryland wheat ground owned by Barbara Ogle. The couple’s daughter, Audrey graduated from Griswold High School with honors in 1996, was married in 2002, and
delighted her parents with a grandson, Cadney Rien Bacon on Sept. 8, 2004. Dale and Peggy attended all of Audrey’s sports and school activities throughout her school career and continue to support and attend Cadney’s activities, as well. Dale was very proud of all of Audrey’s accomplishments, from sports in high school to her abilities as a mother in raising his grandson. Audrey and Cadney were truly Dale’s pride and joy.
Dale was an avid car enthusiast – he loved to drive and drive fast! The couple always drove on weekends to wherever they could go in two days, always going somewhere different. They had seen a lot of sites over the years. Driving was Dale’s passion.
Dale could fix anything. You could find him in the shop most any day tinkering with something. If he needed a part or a tool for a project he was working on and he didn’t have what he needed, he would make it.
Dale enjoyed helping others and could be found helping someone with a car issue or a flat tire or even taking care of the neighbor’s lawn mowing and weed control when there was a need. Dale also had a sense of humor that was second to none. He took pleasure in making someone laugh, even if it was at his expense.
A graveside service will be held today, Aug. 3, 2020 at 7 p.m. at Skyview Memorial Park, Pendleton.
