Dale I. Gibson died on Oct. 24, 2022 at his home in Hermiston at the age of 96.
He was born on Feb. 27, 1926 in Davenport, Wash. to Ray and Lula Scott Gibson.
Dale was raised and attended school in Davenport, Wash., graduating from Davenport High School in the class of 1944. He then joined the United States Army Air Corps and served overseas as a staff sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II. Upon his return to the states he met a young lady, Evelyn Logdson, who tap danced her way into his heart during a performance with the Akappa Club, and they were united in marriage on Aug. 4, 1946 in Fayetteville, N.C. Dale was honorably discharged from the Army and they returned to Davenport, Wash. They later lived in several places including Colville, Wash., Bend, Davis, Calif. and Baker City before settling in Hermiston in 1977, where he had lived since.
Dale built a bull semen collection and export facility in Hermiston that he owned and operated from 1978 until 1989. Dale loved outdoors and shared many hunting trips with sons and grandsons. He was very adventurous and served as a special deputy for the Stevens County Sheriff’s Department, doing scuba diving for rescue and recovery.
Dale was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was their hero and a wealth of information.
He is survived by his sons, Craig Gibson and wife Nancy, Gig Harbor, Wash.; Gene Gibson and wife Judy, Kuna, Idaho; daughters, Caryle Gallien and husband Greg, Hermiston, Marla Anderson and husband Clark, San Diego, Calif. and Cerise Smallwood, La Grande; 10 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; close friend and caregiver, Teresa Iverson, Hermiston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 73 years, Evelyn Gibson; his parents; a son-in-law, Duane Smallwood; sisters, Arlene, Una and Betty; and brothers, Jess, Robert and Jerry.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston.
Burial with military honors will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Stanfield.
