Dale Lingle Passes Away at 91

Dale LeRoy Lingle of Hermiston passed away in Hermiston on Feb. 23, 2023 at the age of 91.

He was born on Dec. 27, 1931 in Portland to Oran and Stella Arnold Lingle.

Dale loved reminiscing about his childhood in Portland and family trips to the Oregon coast. He graduated from Oregon State University with a bachelor’s degree in engineering.

Dale married Nancy Jane Pickett on March 20, 1955. The couple lived in Idaho, Washington and Oregon, as his career with the Bureau of Indian Affairs took them to many locations. In 1972, they moved to Umatilla County where they resided in Pendleton, Adams and Hermiston.

Dale had a strong faith in God, enjoyed being involved in church activities and led youth group and singing for many years. He was an excellent handyman and woodworker; he could fix anything. He was always willing to lend a hand to a friend or neighbor who needed help remodeling a house or working on a car. He loved quartet music and singing in the Oregon East Symphony Chorale. He loved going rafting and spending time at the Oregon coast.

Dale is survived by his sister, Donna Shanit; four daughters, Lorie and husband Gary Swearingen, Diane Lingle and husband David Rappoport, Devota Robins, and Eva and husband Patrick Temple; five grandchildren, Brian, Kevin (Erin) and Nathanial (Jacqueline) Swearingen, and Harrison and Kylie Temple.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

A private family celebration of life will be held.

A private interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
