Dan Bodeen Passes Away at 84

Daniel D. “Dan” Bodeen died on Jan. 31, 2023 at his home in Hermiston at the age of 84.

He was born on Aug. 23, 1938 in Silverton to Harold R. and Nellie L. Reed Bodeen.

His family moved to Yamhill in 1948, where he attended both elementary and high school. Dan served in the Oregon Army National Guard for three years. He worked in saw mills in Valsetz and Elgin. Dan later owned and operated a water truck that he used in road construction, as well as fighting wildfires in Eastern Oregon and the large fire at Yellowstone National Park. Dan later worked as an equipment operator for Hermiston Rock Products, as well as various other places in the area. He married Barbara Benedict on Aug. 20, 1961 and they later divorced. He later married Laverne Wells in 1990.

Dan loved his family and helping others. He took great pride in his ability to build or fix things and in his yard. Dan was an outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and especially four-wheeling with his best friend, Mike.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Laverne; sons, Ron and Ken; daughter, Dana; stepson, Lee; step daughter, Vicki; sisters, Dee, Verna and Pat; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and best friend, Mike.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard; and two step sons.

At his request, there will be no service.
