Darrell “D.O.” Smith died on Dec. 5, 2016 at his home in Hermiston at the age of 82.
He was born on Nov. 5, 1934 in Wenatchee, Wash., to James and Ruby Hart Smith.
He was raised and attended school in Puyallup, Wash., and served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He married Eileen Glandorf on Sept. 10, 1967, in Williamsburg, Iowa, and they had two children, Cindiemarie and Darrell II.
Most of his working life he was a truck driver. Darrell loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, shooting and viewing wildlife. He lived in the Puyallup area most of his life and settled in Hermiston in 2002.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hermiston, and a fixture at the Pheasant Grill and Lounge.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Eileen Smith of Hermiston; son Darrell Smith II and daughter Cindiemarie Blair; son Russell Smith; daughter Amber Jorgenson; brother Dale Smith; sister Rosalie Walters; and grandchildren Spencer and James Smith, Logan and Drake Blair, and Desirae and Angella Jorgenson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Ken Smith; sister Opal Couch; and infant daughter Lindielou Smith (1961).
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 4 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hermiston. All friends and family are welcome.
