David R. Dooney of Umatilla passed away in Hermiston on April 8, 2023 at the age of 76.
He was born on Jan. 26, 1947 in Lebanon to Phillip and Iretta Pay Dooney.
David grew up and attended his schooling in Lebanon, graduating from Lebanon Union High School in the class of 1965. He served in the U.S. Air Force for six years during the Vietnam War. He moved to Eastern Oregon in the mid-1970s, where he had resided for over 40 years. He worked as a boiler room operator for food processing plants in Eastern Oregon.
David was known for his great sense of humor and his practical jokes. He was an avid outdoorsman who found peace while deer and elk hunting and sitting on the river bank fishing. He was also a kind and giving person.
David married Cynthia Albrecht on Nov. 5, 1984 in Umatilla.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Cynthia; son, David Shane (Jessica) Dooney; grandchildren, Jordan and Dakota Dooney; stepson, Casey (Heather) Smith and three sons, Devon, Ethan and Darian Smith; brothers, Wayne and Darrell Dooney; sister, Joyce Westman; brother-in-law, Edward Albrecht; sister-in-law, Rosalie Albrecht; nephew, Greg (Sarah) Dooney and their son Waylon; and several extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marie; and a brother, Norris.
