David A. Helzer died on May 25, 2017 at his home in Hermiston at the age of 67, surrounded by loved ones.
He was born on Sept. 15, 1949 in Nampa, Idaho to Broyce and Nola Kinley Helzer.
He graduated high school in Caldwell, Idaho in the class of 1968. He moved to Hermiston in 1976. He later moved to Pullman, Wash. for several years and returned to Hermiston in 2010, where he had lived since.
He was united in marriage to Sharon Seger on Nov. 24, 1998 in Winnemucca, Nev. He was an owner-operator of his own truck for many years. He then worked as a truck driver for Walmart from September of 1999 until he retired in August of 2016. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, flying and relaxing after his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Helzer, Hermiston; son, Adam Helzer, Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter, Suzi Helzer, Yakima, Wash.; brothers, Chris Martin and Kevin Helzer, Hermiston, and Dennis Helzer, Eagle Creek; sisters, Margie Helzer Gibson, Salem, Julie Helzer Thomas, Portland, and Teresa Helzer Pivek, McMinnville; grandson, Cordan Armstrong; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston.
A celebration of life will follow at the Pheasant Blue Collar Bar & Grill, 149 E. Main St., Hermiston.
