Deane E. Friedly of Hermiston passed away on Dec. 29, 2019 in Hermiston at the age of 89.

He was born in Pendleton on Dec. 31, 1929 to Enoch Friedly and Maude Helen Friedly.

Deane was raised and spent his young life in Helix on the family ranch. He attended and graduated from Helix High School. After graduation he attended Eastern Oregon College for a time, returning to Pendleton to help on the ranch. During this time he met a pretty young woman named Ida Thurston, and they were married in October 1952. For a time they lived in Pilot Rock, where he worked in the mill. They returned once again to the ranch, where they resided until he retired in 1994. At about this time, he and Ida returned to her family home in Umatilla where they stayed until 2015, when they became a part of the Guardian Angel family.

Deane was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge.

Deane had a jolly and joking disposition that made his caregivers smile daily. Upon moving to Guardian Angel, they were “bonus parents” to Don and Mary Ellen Tracy and Becky and Gordy Brockman. We counted ourselves blessed every day to have them in our lives. Deane will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Ida Friedly.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Friedly and sisters, Artis Story and Janis Friedly.

At his request, no formal funeral is planned. There will be a celebration of life at Guardian Angel Home in Hermiston on Friday, Jan. 3 at 10 a.m.
