Delmer Culver

Delmer “Del” Culver passed away with his family by his side on Nov. 20, 2017 in Hermiston at the age of 86.

He was born on Feb. 20, 1931 in Elgin to Guy and Elmy Hesner Culver.

Del lived in Elgin during his childhood, where he attended school and graduated from Elgin High School in 1949. After high school, he lived in Richland, Wash., where he co-owned and operated a service station with his brother Marvin.

He married Charlene (Kayce) Kraft in Richland on Dec. 10, 1966. The couple moved to Prosser, Wash., where Del worked for Twin City Foods, operated a small family farm, and worked for Pendleton Grain Growers. The couple were caretakers at Grace Brethren Church Camp and managers of several hotels and mobile home parks in Washington and Oregon. They moved to Hermiston in 1999, where Del worked until his retirement and moved to Umatilla in 2006.

Del and Kayce were volunteers at Agape House, Treasures Thrift Shop and the senior centers. Del’s favorite pastimes included hunting, golfing, bowling and taking his family to the Oregon coast. Always a tease and somewhat of a jokester, he loved to “steal” cookie dough and became quite talented at making Christmas candy. Del was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Charlene (Kayce); daughters, Pamela (Bill) Martin, Denise Honeyford, Lisa (Thomas) Eppel, Teresa (Terry) Buchanan, Karla Culver and Koni (Dave) Shaff; and only son, Douglas (Brooke) Honeyford. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elvera and Kathleen; and brothers, Clifford and Marvin.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017 at the Country Church, where Del was an active member.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W., Lilburn, Ga., 30047 or lbda.org.
