Deloris Gisinger

Deloris Anna Gisinger of Hermiston died on April 17, 2022 in Hermiston at the age of 81.

She was born to John and Anna Gisinger on June 2, 1940 at her parents’ home in Bismarck, N.D.

In October 1941, the family moved to Hermiston where she attended school, graduating from Hermiston High School in 1958. Deloris had the opportunity to enter nurses’ training in 1958 at St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Yakima, Wash. While enrolled in nurses’ training, she also attended the Yakima Valley Junior College and the University of Washington College. Also, studies were done at the Firland Communicable Disease Hospital in Seattle, Wash. and the Steilacoom State Hospital in Tacoma, Wash. Deloris graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing on March 19, 1961.

Following graduation from nursing school, she began her lifelong career at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton. Her positions included surgical scrub nurse, medical nursing (for 10-1/2 years), supervisor of nurses (six years), emergency room nursing, intravenous therapist, and experience in pediatric, obstetric and geriatric nursing.

Deloris had many hobbies and interests throughout her life, including reading, bowling, crocheting, embroidering, her career, and most of all her travels throughout the world. She traveled to Hawaii, Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales, France, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein, Italy and Athens. She also traveled throughout the United States and loved her times at the Oregon coast. In 1976 she and her friend, Nancy took a trip to the Bicentennial activities in the East.

Deloris and her mother, Anna wrote a Berger family history book, thus completing a long dream and ambition of her mother.

“Giddle,” as a few of us called her (German for godmother), will be remembered for many things: double feature movies at the local theatre on a Saturday afternoon with a huge bag of popcorn, soda and candy in her bag; road trips to Yakima to visit family; sleepovers and getting to stay up really late; her gifts to us from all over the world; family functions and special events – most of all for the love she showed and shared with each and every one of us.

She is survived by her sister, Shirley Hall; nieces, Melvalee Carter and Lisa Blagg; and nephews, John Hall and Kevin Hall. She was also blessed with 21 great nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Gisinger; grandparents, John and Regina Gisinger and George and Magdalena Berger; brother-in-law, Edward Hall; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Mission.

Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
