Music, dance theatre and more is on tap for the 2016-2017 Desert Arts Council season of events.
“One won’t want to miss a single event,” says Mary Corp, Desert Arts Council Board member. Responding to feedback received last year, the council is bringing a few favorites back, adding some new activities for students and families, and reducing ticket prices – to keep the season affordable for everyone in our community, said Corp.
Season tickets are now on sale at the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce, Hermiston Parks and Recreation Department and online at www.desertartscouncil.com.
The performance season starts a little later this year – with “Evening with the Classics” on Saturday, Dec. 10, featuring a homecoming event for Hermiston High School graduates Kelly Kuo and Ron Blessinger. A community favorite – Dancing with Hermiston Stars – will return for its fifth year on Saturday, Jan. 14. A new line-up of community stars will jump, jive, salsa, and shake it with the Utah Ballroom Dance Company pros to compete for your votes, raise money for local charities, and chase the dream of winning the magical mirror ball trophy. Local children dancers will again kick off the evening under the guidance of the professional dancers. Tickets in advance are adults $20, students $10, and will be $5 more at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the performance at 7 p.m. at the Hermiston High School Fine Arts Auditorium.

Add in a prince looking for a proper Princess to share the throne – and you have wonderful theatre experience for the whole family. The cast will be recruited from our local communities, practice all week with Missoula Children’s Theater and then put on a performance on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017 at the Hermiston Conference Center.
