Nancy Walchli and Bennett Christianson cut the ribbon on the final phase of Desert Sky Estates on Monday. Helping out were members of the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce and Hermiston City Manager Bryon Smith, Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan and Umatilla County Commissioner Dan Dorran.

The eighth and final phase of the Desert Sky Estates had its ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday.

What started out as just a single spec home in 2011 is now an 89-lot subdivision with 12 new lots that just opened up.

“We’re excited to launch the eighth and final phase,” said Bennett Christianson of Christianson Realty Group during a live feed by Hermiston Chamber of Commerce. “All the homes here are completely custom built. You can bring your own floor plan.”

With a shortage of new homes for sale in Hermiston, the new lots are a welcome addition to the subdivision.

Nancy Walchli, a broker with Christianson Realty Group, said the Desert Sky subdivision is a diverse neighborhood with friendly residents.

“They hold a block party every year so new people in the neighborhood can get to know each other,” she said. “COVID kind of put that on hold, but the people who live here really enjoy it.”
