Grigg has 21 years of experience in education, beginning his career in Oregon in 2001 as a sixth-grade teacher. He was hired by HSD in 2005 as the assistant principal for Sandstone Middle School. In 2007 he moved to Armand Larive Middle School to serve as assistant principal, and in 2009 he started his post as SES principal.

Grigg and his wife, Robyn, live in Hermiston with their five children: Skyler, Koby, Trey, Kira, and Brooke.

Each year HSD also recognizes its outstanding teaching staff with the Educator of the Year Award. It is awarded annually to one educator from each of the elementary and middle schools, two educators from Hermiston High School, and one district-level educator. School staff members nominate coworkers from their respective schools for the honor. Nominees must have worked in the district for at least five years. The award is considered a “career-level” award that is conferred only on the most deserving of educators.

This year’s recipients are:

• Melody Bustillos, Hermiston High School

• Mary Robinson, Hermiston High School

• Ashlie Stanley, Armand Larive Middle School

• Lisa McElroy, Sandstone Middle School

• Dia Bernabe, Desert View Elementary School

• Deanna Plum, Highland Hills Elementary School

• Jessica Campbell, Rocky Heights Elementary School

• Robbie Storagee, Sunset Elementary School

• Stacy Schaefer, West Park Elementary School

• Arta Jones, District-level

Grigg and the educators of the year will be recognized at the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce’s Distinguished Citizens Awards banquet scheduled for Feb. 3.

Every spring, the Oregon Department of Education recognizes an Oregon Teacher of the Year. The Hermiston School District will nominate and support one of its 10 educators of the year for this statewide recognition. The single Hermiston School District educator of the year will be revealed at the Chamber’s DCA banquet.
