Mooney is currently employed as assistant superintendent in the Pendleton School District. She will replace outgoing Deputy Superintendent Wade Smith, who was recently selected to serve as Walla Walla Public Schools superintendent.

Mooney started her education career in 1995 as a teacher in the Hermiston School District. She served as a Title I (reading) teacher at Sunset Elementary School and then as a sixth grade teacher at Sandstone Middle School. In 2005, she was selected to be the principal of Rocky Heights Elementary School, and in 2007 she was promoted to middle school principal at Armand Larive Middle School. In 2008 she was hired by the Pendleton School District to be its director of human resources and in 2009 was promoted to assistant superintendent. She earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Washington State University in 2001 and is presently working on her doctorate.

Mooney serves as the incoming president of the Oregon School Personnel Association and is a member of the state’s Educator Effectiveness Group. In this capacity she provides advice to the Oregon Department of Education and other state policy makers on matters related to educator training and professional development.

“I am extremely grateful to the Pendleton School District for the valuable experiences and relationships I have built over the last eight years,” she said. “Although I will miss Pendleton, I look forward to the next step in my career.”

Mooney’s employment will be considered by the Hermiston School Board at its next regular business meeting on May 9.
