Doris L. “Dode” Tefft Pettey died on June 15, 2023 in Hermiston at the age of
85.
Dode was born on Feb. 20, 1938 to Alfred “Tuffy” and Arlene Tefft in Delta, Colo.
She joined older brother Archie.
The family moved to Reith when Dode was still preschool and later to Stanfield,
as her father worked for the railroad. She met and married Frank Pettey at a
young age, and the couple enjoyed over 57 years together until Frank’s death.
The couple raised four children in Hermiston.
Dode was a homemaker and also kept books for Frank’s businesses. She
enjoyed her chickens, her dog Whiskey, crocheting and word puzzles, and
somewhere in her late 60s discovered computers. She loved playing on her
computer. It became well known that if her computer was not behaving, nobody
was going to be happy.
Dode is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Dave) Zinter; son-in-law, Bill
Dickerson; daughter-in-law, Debbie Pettey; grandchildren, Jeff Cady, Jason
Cady, Mandi Munoz, Brandi Hendrickson, Jessica Cutburth, Trista Dunn and
Devin Pettey; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; her daughters,
Cindy Pettey and Tammy Dickerson; son, Kevin Pettey; and brother, Archie Tefft.
The family would like to thank Guardian Angel of Hermiston and their wonderful
loving staff, Vange John Memorial Hospice, and Christa.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 12 noon at the
Hermiston Cemetery.
