The Hermiston Downtown District is calling all artists to help celebrate the arrival of spring by joining the Hermiston Art Festival, an indoor-outdoor celebration of the arts.

This year’s festival takes place on Saturday, May 18. The public is invited to come down to Main Street where local artists, music, and creative activities will be available to the whole family.

“This is a celebration of local achievement in the arts from the professionals and aspiring youth sponsored by the Hermiston Downtown District and made possible with support of the city of Hermiston and local businesses in the downtown district,” said Mary Corp, local artist and co-chair of the 2019 Hermiston Art Festival.

Artists from around the region will display their crafts at the 2019 Hermiston Art Festival. This painting, Fall Attractions, is by Mary Corp, one of the co-chairs for the festival.

The festival kicks off Saturday morning with professional artists from around the region showcasing their artistic creations inside businesses and on the streets along the 100 and 200 blocks of East Main Street. The Festival Street on Second and Main Street will also host live music, children and adult art activities and face painting.

“We are looking for a mix of artistic styles that people of all ages can relate to and be moved by; from realism to modern, watercolors to metal, fused glass, photography and many others in between,” said Corp. “Artists will be on-hand to share with the public about their creative vision and process that creates their unique and original art. We are currently taking registrations from artists and lining up our live performers.”

Corp said every year is different with each artist bringing their unique style to the mix.

“The Hermiston Downtown District is pleased to showcase the abilities of our local artist community through this great event,” says Judy Pedersen, Hermiston Downtown District president.

In addition, the Student Art Show will feature works from middle and high school students.

“It is the goal of the festival and it sponsoring organization, Hermiston Downtown District, to create more involvement in the arts and to help build a vibrant arts community in the region,” said Corp.
