Hermiston Fire and Emergency Services and other emergency responders rescued the driver of a vehicle that had plunged 50 down an embankment to the bank of the Umatilla River Sunday morning.
Following an emergency call that came in around 7:52 a.m. on Sunday, firefighters found an adult female with serious injuries and hypothermia. According to Hermiston fire officials, removing the driver from the scene was difficult and time consuming due to the steep terrain and overgrown vegetation.
The patient was taken by Northwest Medstar helicopter to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland for treatment. No information was available on the woman’s identification or the extent of her injuries.
Also responding to the accident were Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, the Oregon State Police, and the Umatilla Fire District.
Fire officials said they were grateful to nearby property owners who helped in clearing the trail and allowing access to their property.
