The Hermiston School District this week began testing all winter athletes three times weekly regardless of vaccination status.
The district was informed by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) that the need for more frequent testing is due to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases impacting the league.
The new testing requirement also applies to all coaches and other personnel that work with the student-athletes.
The new guidelines went into effect on Monday.
