E. Oregon Voters Overwhelmingly Reject Sales of Psilocybin

Voters in Eastern Oregon on Tuesday overwhelmingly voted to prohibit the sale of psilocybin, otherwise known as magic mushrooms.

Psilocybin is a hallucinogenic chemical obtained from certain mushrooms and was made legal for manufacture, sale, and purchase at licensed service centers by Oregon voters in 2020.

Each city and county in Oregon had the chance to opt-out on an individual basis. Most municipalities in Eastern Oregon voted to have the residents decide whether to prohibit the sales of psilocybin.

Voters in Morrow County and Umatilla County voted to prohibit sales inside the county.

The following cities voted to reject the sales inside city limits:

  • Hermiston
  • Echo
  • Pendleton
  • Athena
  • Pilot Rock
  • Stanfield
  • Boardman
  • Umatilla
  • Irrigon
  • Ione
  • Heppner
  • Lexington
  • Milton-Freewater

The votes to prohibit the sale in each city and county were all well over 60 percent.
