Emily C. Brood Mellick died on Oct. 23, 2021 at her home in Hermiston at the age of 65.
She was born on Jan. 22, 1956 in Longview, Wash. to Herbert and Edna Jones Brood.
Emily was raised in Hermiston and after school, started her family. She worked at Good Shepherd Hospital as a CNA for a time and later attended Blue Mountain Community College, where she earned her degree in early childhood education.
Emily devoted most of her years to being a stay-at-home mom and grandma. She married Lloyd Mellick in 1979, and he passed away in 1993.
Emily enjoyed camping, canning, going to the beach, fishing, sewing, crafts and shopping. She cherished time with her family and hosting holiday dinners.
She is survived by her son, Ken Gilham and his wife, Heather, Hermiston; daughters, Bertha Gilham and her husband Michael Phillips, Hermiston and Tammie Browning (Jeff), Wenatchee, Wash.; mother, Edna Collyer, Hermiston; siblings, David and Buddy Brood, both of Hermiston, Iris Sunquist, Hermiston, Ellen Scarrow, Nebraska and Ruth Eddy, Vancouver, Wash.; grandchildren, Crystal, Caleb, Shayla, Emily, Andy, Jessica and Ashton; great grandchildren, Zolah Rae, Asher and Azra; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Emily was preceded in death by her husband, her father and a sister, Susanna Brood.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021 at 10 a.m. at the Hermiston Cemetery.
