Eastern Oregon Telecom (EOT) broke ground today on a new piece of property that will allow it to combine its commercial and warehouse operations in one location.

The new property is located right off South Highway 395 and S.E. Kelli Blvd., across the Street from the Oregon Child Development Coalition Migrant & Early Head Start building.

EOT has been at its current location, 1475 N. First St., since 2006. The company was started by Umatilla Electric Cooperative in 2001.

EOT General Manager and CEO Joe Franell said the new location has a number of advantages.

“This is where the growth is,” said Franell, speaking of the south side of Hermiston along Highway 395. “And this puts us more central to where our footprint is.”

The new location also gives EOT two points of egress and ingress – either on Highway 395 or Feedville Road.

“It’s nice to have options when you’re moving big trucks in and out of the lot,” he said.

And combining the commercial and warehouse operations will increase efficiency, he added.

“We’ll be able to have it all in one location,” said Franell.

Franell thanked his employees, which number about 17, during Wednesday morning’s groundbreaking ceremony.

“We would not be here today without our employees,” he said.

The new building is being constructed by McCormick Construction Company out of Pendleton.

Franell said he expects the new building to be ready sometime in May 2018.
