Esperanza “Hope” Minton of Hermiston died on Sept. 15, 2018 in Hermiston at the age of 85.
She was born on Aug. 17, 1933 in Eagle Pass, Texas to Gustavo and Maria Anita Buendia Munoz.
Esperanza was raised in Eagle Pass, Texas, where she married Felipe Minton on March 6, 1950. They moved to Mabton, Wash. and lived there before settling in Hermiston in 1952, where she had lived since.
Esperanza worked at the Hermiston Community Center and later for Head Start and Lamb Weston before working for J.R. Simplot. She worked for Dr. Joseph Gifford for several years before she retired.
She was a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church and the Hermiston Eagles Lodge #2909 for many years. Esperanza enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, cross stitch, coloring, cooking, going on walks and hosting parties. She also was known for making the best tamales in town. She loved dancing, singing, all kinds of music, telling stories and jokes and making people smile. She was a trusted friend and a good mother.
She is survived by her sons, Bud, Don, Ted and Douglas Minton; daughters, Mari Garris, Peggy Irwin, Joella Huntington, Gigi Johnson, JoAnn Minton and Sandra Smith; sister, Rosa Pena; 19 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Esperanza was preceded in death by her husband, Felipe Minton, her parents and four siblings.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Friday, Sept. 21, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m.
Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
