Evelyn Jane Powell of Hermiston passed away in Hermiston on Dec. 14, 2023 at the age of 91.
She was born on May 1, 1932 in Monmouth Beach, N.J. to Michael Nooton and Dorothy Horner.
Evelyn grew up and received her schooling in Monmouth Beach, N.J. She met Leon Francis Powell who was serving in the U.S. Air Force, and the couple were united in marriage on July 29, 1950 at North Long Branch, N.J. They resided at Venice Beach, Calif. and several southern California areas before moving to Hermiston in 1970.
In addition to her work as a mother and a homemaker, Evelyn enjoyed her work with the Hermiston School District, where she was a cafeteria assistant for several years.
Evelyn enjoyed metal detecting, fishing, camping and going RVing. She and Leon were members of the Good Sam RV Club and the Eagle Lodge. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed making ceramics and spending time with her family. Her favorite place of all was visiting the beaches on the Oregon coast.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Powell and Patricia Chard; two sons, Robert (Marcia) Powell and Donald (Cindy) Powell; seven grandchildren, Melissa, Michael, Matthew, Travis, Troy, Janice and LeAnn; many great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22, 2023 at the Burns Mortuary Chapel.
A private burial will be in the Hermiston Cemetery.
