Beginning Saturday, Sept. 7, at 10 p.m., the Interstate 84 eastbound Exit 179 off-ramp to Interstate 82 northbound will be closed for 24 hours.

Oregon Department of Transportation officials say the closure is necessary to apply a seal to the bridge deck and complete repairs. The estimated completion date for this work is Sunday, Sept. 8 at 10 p.m.

When the I-84 eastbound Exit 179 off-ramp to I-82 northbound is closed, traffic should take the exit 168 off-ramp to U.S. 730, then continue on U.S. 730 for 15 miles to connect to I-82 near Umatilla. An alternative detour for non-commercial vehicles only is to continue east on I-84 past Exit 179 and take Exit 180 at the Westland Road interchange. Turn left at the end of the Exit 180 off-ramp to cross over the freeway and return to I-84 westbound for one mile. Use the westbound Exit 179 off-amp to access I-82. Exit 180 is not suitable for commercial vehicles.

Message boards will announce the eastbound Exit 179 closure beginning about a week prior to the temporary ramp shutdown. Travelers using the U.S. 730 detour are reminded to drive with extra caution as traffic on the route could be heavier than usual.

The westbound Exit 179 ramps will remain open and are not impacted by this project.

The scheduled bridge repair work is weather dependent and the closure date could change. Check TripCheck.com for closure information.
