Drivers who use East Theater Lane, and Northeast Fourth Street should prepare for several weeks of rolling full street closures as contractors begin to install new water main beginning May 6, with work anticipated to continue through May 24.

The work will take place in four phases along East Theater between N.E. 2nd and N.E. 10th in order to minimize disruptions from the closures. The most disruptions to traffic will occur within the first two phases, approximately between May 6 and May 17. Maps showing the traffic control plan are available on the city of Hermiston’s website.

The work is part of a $4.1 million water system expansion project paid for jointly by the city of Hermiston and Umatilla County.

Phase 1

Location – E. Theater between N.E. 2nd & N.E. 4th. There will be a full closure of E. Theater Lane. The intersection with N.E. 4th will remain open during this phase, but any traffic looking to access areas east of the intersection from Highway 395 should plan ahead. The next closest connecting streets between 395 & N.E. 4th are Punkin Center Road and Elm Avenue. Work begins Monday, May 6 and will last about one week.

Phase 2

Location – E. Theater between N.E. 4th & N.E. Alora Dr. Full closure of E. Theater. The intersection with N.E. 4th will be closed for a brief period just long enough for work to go through the intersection. Access to N.E. Alora Drive will remain open during this phase. Work begins following Phase 1, estimated week of May 13.

Phase 3

Location – E. Theater between N.E. Alora Dr. and N.E. 8th. Full closure of E. Theater. Access to N.E. Alora Drive will be closed briefly, just long enough for work to go past the intersection. The intersection of N.E. 8th and Theater Lane will remain open.

Phase 4

Location – E. Theater Lane between N.E. 8th & N.E. 10th. Full closure of E. Theater Lane. The intersection with NE 8th will be closed briefly at the beginning of the phase, just long enough for work to go through the intersection. Completion is estimated to be May 24.
