Oregon department of Transportation maintenance crews will be performing shoulder work along Highway 11 (Oregon-Washington Highway) during the month of August at various locations between Pendleton and the Washington border.

Travelers can expect shoulder and lane closures at times with flaggers and delays of up to 20 minutes. Motorists are advised to slow down and watch for crews and equipment, and to plan extra travel time along the route. ODOT officials urge motorists to drive distraction free by putting away cell phones and other electronic devices, and pay extra attention to the road, especially in and around work zones. Speed and distracted driving are primary contributors to highway crashes.

“We’ll try to keep delays and traffic impacts to a minimum and ask for everyone’s patience,” said ODOT District 12 Manager Marilyn Holt. “Our maintenance workers will reshape deteriorating shoulder areas and widen locations where there isn’t room to pull off, which should improve safety. We anticipate that most of the traffic delays will be in the ten to fifteen minute range, however longer delays of up to twenty minute may occur at times.”

Numerous shoulder areas will be addressed along the route, however, traffic impacts will typically be at only one location at a time. Watch for orange cones, signs and crews, and be prepared to stop.
