The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office will once again be teaming up with other agencies around the state for the Christmas and New Year’s season.
From Dec. 9 to Jan. 1, the Sheriff’s Office will be participating in Oregon’s DUII/High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) grant program looking for impaired drivers.
The Sheriff’s Office will have extra deputies patrolling the roadways looking specifically for intoxicated and distracted drivers. Like the campaign says, “Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving.”
Deputies are also trained to look for drivers under the influence of drugs such as marijuana and prescription drugs.
“Agencies will continue to work hard to keep our streets safe during this holiday season,” said Umatilla County Sheriff Terry Rowan. “We are asking for your help in reporting suspected intoxicated drivers. If you see what you believe to be an unsafe operation of a motor vehicle, call 541-969-3650 or 911 if it appears to be an emergency.”
