The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting enhanced patrols today in an effort to keep impaired driver’s off the road.
“1,232 people lost their lives in Oregon between 2003 and 2012 due to alcohol related driving” says Sgt. Joshua Roberts. “St. Patrick’s Day is no exception. From 2009 to 2013, St. Patrick’s Day drinkers have claimed the lives of 276 people on our highways nationwide.”
These additional patrols are funded by a grant from the Oregon State Sheriff’s Association.
Citizens are asked to report suspected drunk drivers by calling 541-966-3650, or 911 if it appears to be an emergency.
