The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office announced today that it will be teaming up with other agencies around the state for the Christmas and New Year’s season.

From Dec. 12, 2014 to Jan. 1, 2015, the sheriff’s office will be participating in Oregon’s High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) grant program looking for impaired drivers. The sheriff’s office will have extra deputies patrolling the roadways looking specifically for intoxicated and distracted drivers.

Like the campaign says, “Buzzed driving is Drunk Driving.” Deputies are also trained to look for drivers under the influence of illicit drugs such as marijuana, as well as prescription drugs.

Agencies will continue to work hard to keep our streets safe during this holiday season. The sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s help in reporting suspected intoxicated drivers. If you see what you believe to be unsafe operation of a motor vehicle, call 541‐969‐3651, or 911 if it appears to be an emergency.
