The National Weather Service is issuing a warning to residents throughout Northeast Oregon and Southeast Washington that unseasonably high temperatures will arrive on Friday and continue through Monday.
A pronounced ridge of high pressure will build over the Pacific Northwest by the weekend, according to the weather service. Afternoon highs will reach the 90s by Friday and climb above 100 degrees by Sunday and Monday and could reach record levels.
Health experts urge residents to stay hydrated during the hot temperatures and plan outdoor activities during the cooler parts of the day. Also, those seeking relief from the heat should be aware that rivers and lakes will remain cold and hypothermia can occur.
