Fitzgerald ran unopposed for George Anderson’s Ward II seat in May. Anderson announced in January that he would not be seeking another term on the council. But when he announced in June that he was stepping down before his term ended in December, it left an opening on the council.
On Monday, the Hermiston City Council confirmed her appointment to fill out the remainder of Anderson’s term. Fitzgerald was the only person to apply for the seat.
Fitzgerald is expected to be sworn in at the Aug. 25 council meeting.
