The Eastern Oregon Forum will present “Deconstructing A Dictator: Who is Vladimir Putin and What Does He Want?” featuring Brigit Farley at Blue Mountain Community College on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m.
The event, which costs $6 at the door and is free for students, will be held in Room 200 in the Science and Technology Building at the Pendleton campus, 2411 N.W. Carden Ave.
Farley, an associate professor of history at Washington State University, Tri-Cities, where she teaches 20th Century Russian and European history, is a longtime student and observer of the USSR and Russia. She spent a semester at Leningrad State University in 1981, and served 14 months in 1987-1988 as a guide in Moscow, Kiev and Rostov-on Don with the United States Information Agency’s traveling exhibit, “Information USA.”
In the last decade, Farley has visited Russia often in connection with a book concerning the eventful life of an historic cathedral on Red Square. Her interest in Putin’s Russia is both professional and personal.
The Eastern Oregon Forum is a collaborative effort among leaders from BMCC; InterMountain Education Service District; the East Oregonian; American Association of University Women; and Harriet Isom, a former United States ambassador who also serves on the committee.
