More than 300 new students will learn about all the ways Blue Mountain Community College can support them in their educational journeys during the fourth annual Welcome to the Pack new student orientation event on Friday, Sept. 22.
Welcome to the Pack is an opportunity for students new to BMCC to meet faculty and staff, take in a sample class (“What’s in Your College Cuisine,” anyone?), locate where on campus your classes will take place, learn about BMCC resources and programs, and participate in some fun activities while meeting other new students. Those attending will also receive a free lunch and have opportunities to win scholarships, a tablet, bike, and other fun items.
The more than 300 students registered for the event is an increase over last year’s event. Data from prior years’ events has shown that new students who participate in Welcome to the Pack consistently are more successful in their first term at BMCC (i.e., completion of courses, GPA, subsequent enrollment in the next term) than new students who don’t participate in the event.
Welcome to the Pack takes place Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with check-in at 9:30 a.m. Registration is free and still open. Students can register now by logging into their Student Wolf Web accounts, selecting “Fall 2017” and registering for course number N.R0700-01-Welcome to the Pack.
So far, 1,300 new students have indicated they will start at BMCC in the 2017-2018 academic year, with the majority beginning in the fall term. This is a 28% increase in enrollment as compared to the 2016-2017 academic year.
