The ninth annual Hermiston FunFest is promising to serve up some homespun fun with everything from live music, dozens of vendors, a classic car show, lawn mower races and a teddy bear parade – all packed into one day on Saturday, July 12.

The fun gets under way with breakfast served by the Hermiston Rotary Club from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on the corner of North Second and Main Streets.

Hermiston Chamber of Commerce President Debbie Pedro said there will be plenty to keep the whole family busy.

“Bring the kids dressed up to enter the Teddy bear parade,” she said. The FunFest favorite begins at 9:30 a.m. in front of Defining Details, formerly Sherrell Chevrolet on Main Street. Pedro said there will be games and activities for children with “prizes galore.”

Back by popular demand will be the Outlaw Lawn Mower Dragsters racing down Main Street. Other highlights include the Bear in the Box chainsaw group, as well as a hands-on exhibit by the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI). The OMSI exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the old Hermiston Herald Building on the corner of Main and Second Streets.

There will be more than 50 booths, food, artists, activities, games, face painting, bouncy tents and more throughout downtown Hermiston. Shade will be provided in the general area around the stage. Entertainment will be provided throughout the day on the Main Street stage, including Bag of Hammers and Dakota Brown.

For classic car fans, McKenzie Park will be the site of the Cool Rides Car Show.

Title sponsors for FunFest are HAPO Community Credit Union, KOHU/The Q and the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce. Platinum sponsors are Umatilla Electric Cooperative and Valmont Northwest and gold sponsors are Banner Bank, Rogers Toyota and Purple Ridge Lavender.
