Funland Playground at Butte Park will close on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 8 a.m. for treatment of the playground surface.
This process protects and extends the life of the poured-in-place rubber surface.
Applying sealant is part of regular playground maintenance recommended every 4-5 years for rubber surfaces. This is the first time since the construction of Funland Playground that sealant has been applied, and the playground will be closed until further notice to ensure the sealant has time to completely dry. The community is asked to stay off the playground surface and equipment until the park is re-opened.
“Funland Playground is one of the jewels of our park system and is used year-round by thousands of children and families,” said Hermiston Parks & Recreation Director Brandon Artz. “Regular maintenance ensures that the playground will continue to be a safe and enjoyable place for years to come and that we can keep down costs and extensive closures that would come with replacing the entire playground surface.”
Funland Playground at Butte Park is one of 15 parks in Hermiston maintained by the Parks & Recreation Department. The city maintains more than 100 acres of recreational land for the enjoyment of the community and has 50 acres planned for future development. Learn more at www.hermiston.gov/parksrec.
