The new Funland Playground could be ready for the public by the end of May.
That was the message given by Hermiston Parks & Recreation Director Larry Fetter to the Hermiston City Council Monday night.
“It’s an amazing project and going to be an incredible playground, but we’re only about a third of the way through it,” said Fetter. “We’re on target for a dedication on Memorial Day weekend. There are some key things we need to hit in order to make that schedule, but we’re hopeful we can.”
Fetter said the restroom and concession area should be built in March.
Funland was first built in 1995 and was destroyed in an arson fire shortly after. It was rebuilt in 1996, but was again destroyed in a fire in the summer of 2019. The new playground will be constructed out of vandal-resistant material.
