Gary Norman Beard died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014 at his home in Hermiston at the age of 81.
He was born May 18, 1933 at Lebanon to Kyle Roland and Vivian Claire (Conway) Beard.
He was raised in Lebanon and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1951. He joined the U.S. Navy and served in Korea. After the service he attended Oregon Institute of Technology and earned his associate’s degree. On Feb. 25, 1961 he married Sylvia Joyce Campbell in Pasco, Wash. They moved to Hermiston in 1977 and he worked in heavy construction as a construction engineer for 42 years. Gary was a member of the Elks Lodge #1663 & American Legion #51 both in Lebanon and the International Union of Operating Engineers #302 of Seattle, Washington. He enjoyed hunting and reading.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sylvia J. Beard of Hermiston; daughters, Carolyn J. Wells of Entiat, Wash., and Sarah N. Beard-Hoffman of Hermiston; son, Kyle F. Beard of Renton, Wash.; brothers, Gordon W. Beard of Junction City, and Wayne Kyle Beard of Thailand; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kyle and Vivian Beard.
At his request, there will be no services held. Disposition was by cremation. Inurnment of cremains will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Lebanon at a later date.
