Gary Gray Passes Away at 70

Gary L. Gray died on Feb. 16, 2019 at his home in Hermiston at the age of 70.

He was born on Aug. 10, 1948 to Goldie Mae Bowman.

Gary lived most of his life in Hermiston, attending school in Umatilla and graduating from Hermiston High School in 1967. He went on to serve his country in the United States Army in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged and returned home to Hermiston in 1970. Gary worked construction most of his life before going to work for the Hermiston Irrigation District in 1987. He retired in 2014 due to failing health from multiple sclerosis.

Gary enjoyed most all outdoor activities, especially his time spent in the mountains hunting, fishing and four-wheeling with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Judy Gray, Hermiston; daughters, Melissa (Kasey) Powers, Vancouver, Wash., Stacy Gray, Tucson, Ariz., Nicole Stratton (Ray Casteel), Hermiston and Jessica Gray, Hermiston; brother, Al (Ria) Kauffman, Portland; sister, Jackie Walker, Hermiston; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service with military honors will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston, followed by a potluck from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Maxwell Siding Event Center. Please join us with your favorite dish; drinks will be provided.

Memorial contributions can be made through Burns Mortuary to the MS Society or Vange John Memorial Hospice Education Fund.
