Pump prices continue to move lower, with prices dropping in 47 states over the past week and 48 states during the previous month. For the week, the national average falls a nickel to $2.15 a gallon. The Oregon average loses a penny to $2.51.

“The national average for regular unleaded is at its lowest price for this date since 2004, while Oregon’s average is at its lowest mark for the date since 2005said AAA Oregon/Idaho Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds. “AAA expects retail gas prices to remain low for the rest of the summer, barring unexpected events.”

With abundant fuel supplies across the nation and declining crude oil costs, retail pump prices are substantially lower than one year ago in every state, led by California, where prices are more than a dollar cheaper than this time last year. Here are the top five year-over-year discounts: California (-$1.03), Alaska (-83 cents), Nevada (-75 cents), Oregon (-61 cents), and Washington (-54 cents).

The most common price in the country is $1.999 per gallon, and more than one-third of gas stations nationwide are selling gasoline for $2 per gallon or less. Oregon does not yet have a gas station selling gas for less than $2, although some stations are within a few cents of the $2 mark.
