George A. Schisler died on Feb. 24, 2024 at his home in Boardman at the age of 78.
He was born on Feb. 7, 1946 in Yakima, Wash. to Clark and Grace Reeves Schisler.
George was raised in Huntington, graduating in 1965. He went to work for Union Pacific Railroad before serving in the United States Army. George was stationed in Vietnam for over a year before his honorable discharge and return to work for UPRR. He married Linda S. Ferguson on May 24, 1968 in Huntington. They lived in numerous places between Huntington and Portland before settling in Hermiston in 1971. They moved to Boardman in 2006, where they have lived since.
George retired from UPRR after 42 years as a signalman. He enjoyed fishing, visiting with his friends, going to auctions, working in his yard and garden, and his dogs.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda Schisler, Boardman; sons, William A. Schisler and wife Michelle, Mishawaka, Ind. and Joshua J. Schisler, Boardman; daughter, DaLonda M. Redmond and husband Doug, Irrigon; brother, William H. Schisler, Huntington; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special four-legged companion, Jack.
George was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Johnny, Mabel, Grace, Della and Chester.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 starting at 9:30 a.m., followed by a celebration of life service with military honors at 11 a.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston.
